Pilot Comments for LFMA
Y.
The approach is very relaxed, especially on weekends when Salon is not active. The status of Salon is available via Marseilles Information. There is heavy parachuting activity; we had to hold briefly before we could land.
Self-service fueling with credit card works flawlessly. Note that you may only taxi to the fuel station from the back side.
The grass parking area is in poor condition; we parked on asphalt. As the billing software was inoperative on the day of departure, I can’t comment on the charges.
Uber to and from Aix en Provence 9-12 Euro.
AirfieldBot
LFMA is a busy, controlled GA airfield with friendly and helpful staff. VFR and IFR departures are coordinated by the tower with Marseille; there is no instrument approach, but STAR and omnidirectional departure procedures exist. No PPR is required. Parajumping activity occurs, and strong, gusty crosswinds can be present.
Landing fees are low, with parking available on both tarmac (with tie-down rings) and grass (about half the price of tarmac). Example: landing about €10, parking about €20 per night. Payment is made at the building southeast of Park SE; a door code is provided by staff at +33 6 1317 3424. Avgas/100LL is available via automatic station with credit card payment.
Ground transport options include Uber (about €15–25 to Aix-en-Provence), taxis (must be called from Aix), and a bus stop near parking positions S7/S8; bus service is limited on weekends. Walking to Les Milles takes about 20 minutes. A shuttle to Aix exists but runs infrequently.
No customs are available according to the AIP; flights requiring customs may need advance declaration to cli-marseille@douane.finances.gouv.fr. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
