Pilot Comments for LFLU
Paul
The traffic pattern can be busy at times, with a mix of bizjets, light aircraft, military helicopters, and 2 flight schools on the field; AFIS on frequency for coordination. Very good ground services, runway access, 2 good restaurants at the runway end, taxi to the city railway station or to the out-of-town TGV station. Fuel available: JETA1 and 100LL, self-service or fuel truck, via Total card or CB.

Valence-Chabeuil (LFLU) is a straightforward, GA-friendly airport suitable for IFR and VFR operations. IFR procedures are available only during ATS hours, with English radio service during AFIS times; outside these hours, arrivals require advance arrangements. To exit the airfield when ATS is off-duty, a gate code must be requested at least 24 hours in advance (or before Friday noon for weekends), which some find less convenient than at other airports. AFIS is available in French and English on weekdays; outside these times, self-announced traffic in French is required.
Landing fees are moderate. Example: landing fee about €15. Lighting fees for night landings are described as expensive. Payment for landing fees and fuel is made in the main building, though the process can be slow. Fuel (Avgas) is available with Total or AIRCRAFT cards as well as major credit cards; refueling is generally easy and quick.
Facilities are basic, with no on-field restaurant or café reported; a small bar has been open at times. The airport is close to Valence city, with the terminal exit about 70 meters southwest of the fuel station. Taxis to the city cost around €20.
Customs and police require PPR/PN 24 hours in advance via the airport operator or CLI Lyon (TEL: 0800 819 969, E-mail: cli-lyon@douane.finances.gouv.fr). Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
The airfield offers a long runway with ILS to the north and generally uncomplicated approaches. The Mistral wind can be strong in this region. The airport is considered suitable for technical stops and quick turnarounds but offers limited amenities beyond core services.
