LFHV Villefranche Tarare is an uncontrolled airfield in a rural setting northwest of Lyon, operating under Lyon’s class C airspace. The field offers a GNSS cloudbreak approach with minima down to 1200 ft AGL and 1500 m visibility for Cat A aircraft, replacing the previous NDB procedure. ATC clearance before departure is obtained by calling BRIA Bordeaux at +33 5 57 92 60 84, who provide squawk, course, altitude, and frequency by phone. Radio communication is in French only.
Self-service fuel (Avgas and Jet A1) is available 24 hours with pay-at-the-pump by credit card; Avgas can also be paid for with VISA or Mastercard. When staff are present (not Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons), other payment methods are possible; for verification call +33 4 74 71 62 40. The airfield is used as a fuel stop and supports overnight stays.
A well-regarded restaurant is located directly at the airfield and typically open for lunch and dinner; calling ahead at +33 4 78 34 37 29 is recommended to confirm opening times. A hotel is within a 15-minute walk, with the option of pickup/drop-off by arrangement.
Landing and parking fees for one day are about €40. Example: landing and parking about €40. The runway has a noticeable slope when landing on runway 18. Glider activity occurs on the field; vigilance is advised during operations.
Facilities are described as well maintained and general aviation friendly, with Duc propeller manufacturing located on site. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
