Pilot Comments for LFHO
Gunter
One of our favorites in France. We have been there several times and always walked down to the cute little village of Lanas on the Ardeche river. There you can stay at the Auberge du Vieux Lanas. Hiking in the area is highly recommended, for those so inclined. The field is staffed only on weekdays and radio is always A/A, so French is required. No fees. Runway is long, no difficulties. Avgas by CC but more expensive than at other ADs in France. The restaurant at the field was open on occasion but not always. We just had ice cream there once so I can't say anything about the food but staff was very friendly.
AirfieldBot
LFHO is located in the Ardèche region and offers attractive scenery, with the airfield situated on a hill. No landing or parking fees are charged. Self-service Avgas is available 24/7 and can be paid by credit card. Example: landing and parking about €0. Taxi service can be arranged, with local numbers provided. Walking to Lanas is possible, and accommodation is available at Auberge du Vieux Lanas. A karting and quad track are adjacent to the airfield.
The airfield operates on an A/A frequency; English is possible, but French is required for landing on weekends. The tower remains unstaffed. There is significant parachute activity during weekends. The restaurant operates daily from 11:00. The runway and taxiways are in very good condition.
The airfield lies within restricted areas; coordination with Provence Info (132.3) is necessary for arrivals and departures, with clearances generally issued promptly. Strong Mistral winds can occur, requiring secure tie-downs for aircraft. For IFR pick-up, multiple frequency changes and full details may be required before clearance is granted.
A visit to local attractions such as the Chauvet Cave or kayaking on the Ardèche river is possible, and Aubenas town is accessible by taxi or on foot. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
