Pilot Comments for LEPP

In Pamplona you have to reserve parking. No handling required. Parking is in the farthest corner of the apron. But there are tie-down points there, and with the thunderstorm front that came through (30C in the evening, then 10C in the morning) they were more than necessary. At least you sleep better when wind and rain are lashing outside. After landing nobody looked after us anymore. Only when we wanted to walk from the aircraft to the terminal did the Guardia Civile jump out of a dark corner. No hi-vis vest, wrong route, ... Then, thanks to loud instructions shouted across the apron, we were directed onto the correct path. And we were outside in no time. So yes, it was quick :-)
The return was a bit more exciting. You have to manage to get to the office area above Security. But if, in a yellow AOPA vest, you just talk to people at random, you draw enough attention that a few minutes later you’re handed an invoice for 71€ for an SR22 (three days / two nights). For that price I don’t mind being yelled at.

Pamplona (LEPP) is a regional airport set in mountainous terrain, offering both VFR and IFR operations. IFR approaches, especially to runway 33, require preparation for VPT and RNP procedures, with attention to climb gradients and approach minimas due to the surrounding landscape. Visual approaches are possible, and VFR holds may be required. Handling is not required for general aviation aircraft under 3.5 tons that are not jets and have no passengers, as stated in the AIP. No airport slot is needed, and parking is available without prior notice for short stays.
Fees for landing, approach, and one night of parking typically range from about €30 to €35. Example: landing, approach, and one night parking about €35. Refueling incurs a fixed service charge of around €30 in addition to fuel costs. Payment for fuel is accepted via AirBP card or cash; credit cards are not accepted for fuel. Refueling requires advance coordination by email with a form to be completed; the fuel truck usually arrives promptly after landing.
The apron is large and often nearly empty, but marshalling instructions can be unclear. Access to the terminal involves security procedures: payment of fees and flight plan stamping are handled upstairs in the terminal after passing through security with assistance from staff or security guards. Customs and immigration are available but may require searching for the correct entrance or waiting for police; prior notice (PNR) of 24 hours may be needed.
Taxis are readily available at the airport due to scheduled flights from Madrid, with a typical journey time of about 10 minutes into town. The city itself is noted as attractive and worth visiting. Facilities include a snack bar rather than a full restaurant; car hire at the airport can be unreliable, so arranging pickup in town may be preferable.
Pamplona offers efficient operations for general aviation with scenic approaches and generally low fees compared to northern Europe. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
