What other pilots say about LEGR

2015-03-22 00:00:00 UTC

Quiet airfield in great scenery. While vacating the runway, request directly with the Tower to get Avgas promptly from the fuel truck at 2.69€ per liter. Pay the airport fees on the 1st floor of the terminal—landing only 23€, but mandatory handling for Non-Schengen departures that slows you down, is completely unnecessary, and costs 50€. Fees, fueling, and handling payable by credit card. Entry and exit as well as customs and exit formalities via a separate checkpoint at the Guardia Civil. For the trip to Marrokko probably still the cheapest airport.

Granada (LEGR) is generally suitable for non-commercial general aviation, but handling is usually mandatory except when arriving from certain controlled airports listed in the AIP. Several handling agents operate, with Andalucia Aviation Services and Iberia frequently mentioned for efficient and friendly service; however, experiences with other handlers vary, and some pilots report inflexibility or unexpected fee increases. Handling is always required for flights to or from Morocco and for arrivals from uncontrolled fields.

Fees vary widely depending on handler and services. For short stays, total costs (landing, parking, handling) typically range from about €80 to €230 for several days, but higher charges are possible depending on agent and duration. Example: landing, four days parking, and handling about €230–€230; single-day handling about €20–€110. Example: landing fee about €30. Some reports mention unexpectedly high final bills compared to initial quotes.

Fuel (Avgas and Jet A1) is available by truck, but delays are common—sometimes up to an hour or more—especially if commercial traffic is present or staffing is limited. Payment by credit card is generally possible. Fuel must be requested via the agent or directly by phone (see AIP for numbers). Avgas prices have ranged from €1.60 to €3.60 per liter.

Ground access involves a 400–500 meter walk between the GA/business terminal and the main terminal for car hire or public transport; a taxi can be called to the GA area via +34 622354756. Rental cars are available at the main terminal; OK Mobility is recommended for convenience, while other companies require a shuttle bus. Taxis to Granada city cost about €25–€40; shuttle buses run according to airline schedules rather than a fixed timetable.

Procedures can be time-consuming: expect paperwork in the operations office on the first floor of the terminal before departure (flight plan, passenger list/security form). Security staff may speak little English but are generally helpful. For non-Schengen or Morocco flights, customs/immigration formalities are handled efficiently if arranged in advance through your handler.

Approaches are procedural only (no radar), with published VOR/NDB procedures to runway 09; missed approach requires ADF capability. Holding delays may occur due to commercial traffic priority, sometimes resulting in extended orbits before landing clearance. The airport sits in a mountainous area—turbulence and strong winds are possible on approach.

Facilities include basic crew briefing rooms and a snack bar; a full restaurant is located at the airport entrance about 400 meters away. The city of Granada offers attractive accommodation options and sightseeing opportunities.

Overall, LEGR offers reliable GA access with some administrative complexity and variable service quality depending on handler choice; procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM.
