What other pilots say about LDSP
Excellent organization and service; limited parking space, so early reservation is necessary. 5 days with a TBM (3.4 t) cost €505—quite expensive for Croatia.
Handling was requested the day before via http://www.split-airport.hr and confirmed within 30 minutes. After landing, the handling agent’s behavior was almost impudent, and only after presenting the written confirmation were we allowed to park on the virtually empty GA Apron. However, via email the parking could be extended by one night in a friendly, quick, and flexible manner. On the day of departure, the aircraft, contrary to what had been agreed, was not tied down, which, given the wind, was not without risk. Split itself is nice. Transport either via Air Croatia bus for 30 HRK per person or for about 185–220 HKR via Uber.
Split (LDSP) is a busy international airport with limited GA parking, especially during the summer season. PPR and slots are mandatory for both arrival and departure from April to October, with booking possible up to 14 days in advance via schedules@split-airport.hr or ground.ops@split-airport.hr. Slots are not flexible, and parking is often unavailable at short notice in peak months; longer stays may be refused. Handling is required and provided by the airport, with recent examples showing handling fees around €30 but additional charges for GAT access, crew transport, and manpower can bring total handling-related costs to about €135. Parking fees rise significantly in high season; a week’s parking can cost about €390, while shorter stays (1–4 days) typically range from about €100 to €170 including landing, handling, and parking. Example: landing, 4 days parking and handling about €140; IFR landing with brief stop and handling about €60; overnight stay with handling about €150.
Fuel (Avgas and JetA1) is available on request at the aircraft, usually promptly after landing; payment by credit card is accepted. No on-field maintenance except nitrogen for tires. Tie-downs are provided using concrete blocks but pilots may need to secure their own aircraft. The modern terminal offers basic amenities; a dedicated GA terminal has opened but does not increase parking capacity and adds extra charges per passenger.
Transport options include taxis (about 250 kuna/€40–€50 to Split or Trogir), Uber (often cheaper), a public shuttle bus to Split or Trogir from the main road outside the terminal, and car hire desks on site. The old towns of Split and Trogir are close by and highly recommended for visits.
ATC is professional and friendly; visual approaches over Trogir are scenic but mountainous terrain northeast requires attention on missed approach procedures. In strong Bura winds or behind airliners expect turbulence; controllers provide wake turbulence warnings. In summer, expect delays or refusals due to limited apron space—alternate airports such as Zadar may be necessary if parking is unavailable.
Customs/immigration is handled efficiently within the main terminal or via GAT with crew escort through security and passport control. Payment for all services is typically made directly at the aircraft or inside the terminal/van.
Split LDSP offers efficient service but requires advance planning due to strict slot/PPR requirements and very limited GA parking in high season. Fees are medium to high for the region but reflect the location and demand.
