Varna offers a scenic approach with views of the sea and city, and is suitable for general aviation. Handling is mandatory and provided by Swissport or Chris Air, with handling fees varying significantly; one example shows handling about €400, while total charges including landing, security, and parking can be about €50–130 for short stays. Another example for a single night totals about €120. Longer stays can result in higher costs; 10 days with two landings reached about €560. Handling can be slow or involve last-minute fee increases, and payment is typically possible by credit card on the apron.
AVGAS is available at around €3.20 per litre. Some reports mention that carrying an AOPA or pilot ID and preparing a GENDEC in advance may help streamline procedures. Taxis to the city cost about 11–20 Lev or up to €20, with TriumpfTaxi recommended and available in the arrivals hall.
Security and passport control are handled separately from airline passengers, with efficient escort to and from the aircraft for non-Schengen flights. For customs, GENDEC completion is required; some caution that customs may seal aircraft doors with stickers unless instructed otherwise. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
Varna is considered a good destination for visiting the Black Sea coast and the city itself offers a range of amenities within easy reach of the airport.
