Van Nuys (KVNY) is a major general aviation airport in the Los Angeles area, known for being extremely busy with a high volume of GA movements and parallel runways situated close together. The airport lacks a central terminal or general entrance for ground access; visitors must use one of several FBOs located around the field. Multiple flight schools operate at KVNY, including Encore Flight Academy, Mach One Aviation, and Corsair Aviation, with Corsair based inside the Signature FBO and offering a modern Cessna fleet. The environment is demanding due to the presence of numerous flight schools, business jets, maintenance facilities, suppliers, and historical clubs. The airport is situated about 15–20 minutes north of central Los Angeles.
Information from pirep.io:
Description: If you fly a jet and need to get to West LA, look no further. All the amenities are here with Clay Lacy, Jet Aviation, Signature, and at least one other FBO to sort you out. Everything from A320s to Mustangs land here all day long. Black cars galore. Plane cleaning and maintenance no problem. GA is popular but expect to spend 45min idling on a VFR departure while all the IFR guys blast off. It is hard to get a word in edgewise on Ground when things are hopping. T hangars and tiedowns are on the southwest side of field. The restaurant on the northeast corner of the field closed permanently during covid.
Flying Clubs: Eight Ball Flying Club has a Saratoga, two 182s, a 172, and a DA40 here.
