Information from pirep.io:
Description: KAST is a regional airport with a small flight school, active Coast Guard base, and Bar Pilot helicopter operations. It's too far to walk to restaurants and town but there is a courtesy car and a pilot lounge with snacks and coffee. It's reasonable to bike into town if you're willing to brave the narrow shoulders on the bridge (and bring your own bikes of course). As of 2024 KAST has been very aggressive on keeping fuel prices low.
Crew Car: For access to the courtesy car, contact the Port of Astoria, https://portofastoria.com. There's also numerous taxi services in the area and an Enterprise rental car in the city that can deliver cars to the airport given notice.
Comments from pilots:
- Astoria is a great airport to fly out to, the pilots lounge has a great porch to sit and hang out on days when it’s stupid hot in the interior but nice and cool on the coast. More often than not I catch a bit of a burble on final into 32. (2025-03-12, 0 helpful)
