Uncomplicated airport with low traffic, suitable for turnaround or fuel stops. No handling is required. Communication is professional, and controllers generally speak good English, though some prefer French. VFR arrivals must include one of two compulsory VFR entry points in the flight plan; entry is typically from the sea side for arrivals from the north. The airport has a long (3500 m) runway and can be windy, especially near the Strait of Gibraltar.
Customs and immigration procedures are generally friendly but can be time-consuming, with processing times around 40 minutes not uncommon. Carrying a completed General Declaration form is recommended. It is important to check that passports receive the correct entry stamp to avoid complications on onward flights within Morocco. Immigration paperwork is mandatory even for technical stops.
Landing fees are low; Example: landing fee about €10. Fees can be paid in Euro or Dirham, usually cash only. Avgas is available by truck, but fueling equipment may be dated and supply can be rationed; payment is cash only in Euro or Dirham. Taxi rides to the city cost around €15–20 or 100–150 Dirham, and can also be paid in Euro.
Flight planning and weather briefing services are available at the airport, with helpful staff at the C-Office and a weather station nearby offering free briefings. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
