Västerås/Johannisberg Airport (ESSX)

ESSX features two intersecting runways, one asphalt and one grass, each around 840–850 meters. Operations are VFR with no landing fee. Overnight accommodation is available in the glider home for about €5 per person and night. Camping is possible but can be noisy at night. A bathing area is nearby, and regular bus service connects to Västeras city; trains from Västeras to Stockholm run about every 30 minutes with a travel time of one hour. The airfield lies within the Västeras Hässloh (ESOW) control zone; clearance from Västeras Control is required before departure, and blind transmissions are used on the local frequency for landing and takeoff. Parachuting activity occurs on site. The field is suitable as a quick fuel stop due to short distances on the ground and friendly staff. Navigational aids from ESOW (two NDBs and a VOR) assist with navigation to and from ESSX.
