Civil Airfield Västervik (ESSW)

ESSW operates on a PPR basis, which is easily arranged via the website essw.se, by email at flygplatsen@vastervik.se, or by phone at +46 70 398 27 30. The airfield is uncontrolled and does not require a flight information officer; pilots communicate intentions on the published frequency. IFR departures are straightforward, with flight plan pickup possible over the radio with Sweden Control. Runway and taxiways are asphalt and in very good condition, with the main runway measuring 1200 meters.

Self-service fuel (100LL and Jet) is available 24 hours via automated pumps accepting credit cards; no staff presence is required for refueling. There are no landing fees. A clubhouse near the ramp is available for visiting pilots to use for flight briefing. Automatic weather information can be accessed by pressing the PTT four times on frequency 131.615.

Transport to Västervik town (about 6 km away) is typically by taxi, costing about €40. In some cases, local staff have provided rides when taxis were unavailable. Accommodation options include a B&B and a holiday apartment within walking distance of the airfield; booking details are posted on site.

The field is alarm-secured at night, and camping is only permitted outside the perimeter due to security systems. Lighting is available and can be activated by radio if needed. In strong westerly winds, turbulence may occur on approach to runway 15; a higher approach path is advisable. Procedures may vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
