PPR is mandatory, with procedures differing depending on whether the tower is open; during ATS hours, PPR is arranged by phone with the tower and outside those hours, the aeroclub can grant PPR by email. VFR arrivals and departures use specific waypoints, and Apron 4 is the designated GA parking area, though this is not always mentioned in taxi instructions—pilots are expected to know this from the AIP. Parking on Apron 4 can involve a slight incline, but tie-downs with concrete blocks are available. Self-service fuel (Avgas, UL91, Jet A1) is available at Apron 4 and can be paid by card.
Access airside requires a code for the gate or flying club door; this code must be obtained in advance from the aeroclub or posted on a sign at the door. The Hässlö flying club offers a clubhouse with café facilities and friendly members; payment for food and drink is possible by card. Landing fees are paid by bank transfer after emailing operations with your details to receive an invoice. Example: landing fee about €20.
Transport to Stockholm involves a bus from the airport to Västerås station (about €5), then a train to Stockholm (about €20), with total travel time around 1–1.5 hours. Alternatively, a direct bus from the terminal runs infrequently. Taxis to Västerås city cost around 260 SEK.
Maintenance support is available on site, including at least one FBO/mechanic and a Cessna service center that also works on other aircraft types. The airfield hosts commercial pilot training activity, so traffic can increase at times due to instrument training flights.
Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
