Växjö/Småland (ESMX) is a quiet regional airport with friendly and helpful ATC and ground staff. Both VFR and IFR operations are supported, with straightforward procedures for landing, parking, and payment at the information desk in the main terminal. Opening hours can be limited, especially on weekends or off-season, so checking ahead is advisable. Refuelling is generally quick and efficient; Avgas is available via BP card, and Jet-A1 is supplied by truck, though a surcharge applies for small quantities. Example: landing fee about €20. Fuel bills may include additional fees such as hookup or minimum volume charges.
A large tarmac apron provides ample parking, with access to and from airside managed via gates or staff escort if needed. No security screening is required for GA departures. The airport offers a good bus connection to the city centre (bus number 4), with card payment accepted; taxi fares are around €40. Hotels are within 1.5 km, and bicycle rental is possible for exploring the area.
Controllers may warn of turbulence or downdrafts on approach, particularly to runway 29 in strong winds; pilots should be prepared for variable wind conditions on final. Facilities such as a café and flying club exist but may not always be open. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
