Civil Airfield Kętrzyn (EPKE)

Grass runways with generally good condition, though some reports note uneven or bumpy taxiways and apron areas. Approaches use standard VFR procedures with blind calls; radio response is unreliable and staff may not speak English or German, but communication on the ground is friendly and helpful. Current information and charts are available via the Polish AIP VFR. The cross runway is closed until the end of the year (see AIP/NOTAM).

Landing fees are low. Example: landing fee about €10. Hangar space is usually available, with hangar fees around 80 PLN per day. Example: hangar about €20 per day. Car hire on site is possible, typically older vehicles, at about 100 PLN per day. Example: car hire about €30 per day. Bicycles are also available for local transport.

No fuel is available at the airfield itself, but mogas or super can sometimes be arranged in advance by phone or email for delivery in canisters at local petrol station prices; otherwise, fuel is available at nearby airports such as EPOD or EPSY. There is a small bar or bistro on site offering drinks and simple meals.

The airfield serves as a convenient base for visiting the Wolfsschanze (Wolf’s Lair), which is about 10 minutes away by car or taxi; group bus transfers can be arranged in advance. Guided tours are recommended for deeper insight into the site’s history.
