What other pilots say about EPGD
I’m surprised that Danzig only gets an “OK” on average. The field has everything you could think of: 24h, ILS, Avgas, customs, taxi/bus/hotel, and for its size and equipment it’s incredibly inexpensive. C182 €20, with overnight €25, and 6 days parking an additional €12.
The C-Office is useless; better to go straight to Terminal 2 to the door “Airport charges.” That’s where you settle up, and a 1985-style briefing is rarely needed these days.
I had a technical issue and the on-duty Airbus mechanic immediately helped me with tools and assistance at no charge. From Apron 1 to Terminal 2 I was transported several times for free on the new bus.
Avgas €2.20. What more could you want?
EPGD is a busy commercial airport that is notably GA-friendly, with no mandatory handling for non-commercial flights. Both VFR and IFR operations are straightforward, though expect early descent instructions and possible holdings during peak traffic. VFR flight plans are required when entering controlled airspace. ATC is professional and English is spoken fluently. Procedures include walking from apron 1 to the terminal (typically 7–15 minutes), with high-visibility vests required; a Crew Identity Card, provided by the follow-me car or security, is necessary for fast-track re-entry through the main terminal on departure. Payment of fees occurs at the terminal or GA office, and credit cards are accepted.
Fees for landing and parking are generally low for an airport of this size. Example: landing and two nights parking about €30; another example: airport fees, handling, and hangar about €300. Handling is optional but offers good service when used; if not used, pilots must navigate security procedures themselves via the passenger terminal. Hangarage is available but can be significantly more expensive than parking outside.
Fuel (Avgas and Jet A1) is available by bowser; payment by credit card is standard. Fuel can be arranged in advance or requested on arrival, though wait times may vary. There are no tie-down points on the apron; pilots must use available blocks for securing aircraft.
Transport to the city center is convenient: taxis cost about €20–€30 (PLN 70–150) with a journey time of 15–30 minutes depending on traffic and day of week; Uber is available at similar rates. Public transport options include bus line 210 (about 30–45 minutes, PLN 4–6) and a train connection from the airport station to the main railway station.
Facilities include a small lounge area with toilets in the GA section. The city of Gdansk offers many hotels within easy reach of the old town.
Safety notes: GPS jamming occurs regularly in the region; have alternative navigation methods ready as outages can affect both arrivals and departures. High-visibility vests are mandatory when airside. No PPR required for GA flights.
Customs/immigration procedures are handled efficiently within the main terminal; Schengen entry applies where relevant.
EPGD offers efficient service, low fees for GA, good access to city amenities, and professional ATC, making it well-suited for non-commercial general aviation flights.
