Spectacular airport set in dramatic scenery on the Lofoten islands, with a unique approach over water and mountains. The airfield operates as AFIS; if AFIS is not operational, land at own discretion. Opening hours can be variable and are sometimes limited by scheduled commercial flights; outside these times, access to aircraft may not be possible. No Avgas 100LL is available at the field; nearest options are Bodø or Narvik, both within about 30–40 minutes’ flight. Parking for general aviation is available with tie-down materials provided, and multi-day stays are possible. Overnight accommodation is not available on the field, but Svolvær offers hotels and B&Bs; Anne Gerd Lind’s B&B is specifically recommended (Tel: +47 76 07 23 97, annegerd@online.no). Rental cars are available, and taxis to Svolvær cost about 200 NOK or €15. Credit card payment is accepted at the airport.
Facilities include a small terminal with internet access for weather and flight planning; no vending machines or restaurant on site. Camping at the airfield is not possible. High-visibility vests are required airside, and during commercial operations, the terminal apron may not be entered. For assistance, contact the tower (AFIS) or an Avinor staff member in the office south of the terminal.
Landing fees vary: one report states there are no fees, while others mention charges handled via a Weekly Season Card or not being asked for payment; procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM. The local flying club at Leknes (ENLK) has a hangar and UL91 fuel station for those needing further support.
Challenging wind conditions can occur due to the airport’s exposed location among mountains. No camping is allowed on site. Svolvær town offers various restaurants and serves as a good base for exploring the region by car or boat.
