Straightforward public-use airport operated by Avinor, with regular helicopter traffic serving offshore oil platforms. VFR arrivals are uncomplicated, with parking typically assigned at the east end of the ramp. Tie-down rings or concrete blocks are generally available. For aircraft with MTOW below 2730 kg operated by flying club members (including AOPA or PPL/IR), there are no landing or parking fees. Example: taxi to town about £20.
Landside access is via the fire station and takes only a few minutes. The passenger terminal offers bus connections to Kristiansund; Flybuss costs under 100 NOK, and a local bus or taxi is also available. Walking distance to the terminal is about 1 km, and the town center is 15 minutes by taxi. Centrally located hotels such as the Astoria are available, though options may be limited in quality and price due to oil industry demand.
Facilities include a well-stocked cafeteria with apron views but no Avgas available. Free shuttle boats connect the city’s islands, and a free ferry links various districts. The surrounding area features scenic fjords and islands suitable for exploration by air or boat.
Noise from oil platform helicopters can be significant, and caution is advised when helicopters are operating on the ramp. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
