Alta (ENAT) offers a scenic approach surrounded by mountains, with notable terrain features on final for both runways. VFR arrivals follow published routes through the fjords, and the airfield serves as a practical base for flights to Nordkapp. The airport is managed professionally and is generally quiet, though there can be significant helicopter activity near the GA apron due to a nearby flight school. Wearing a HiVis vest is required.
Avgas is available but only with a RocketRoute contract or BP Sterling Card; cash and standard credit cards are not accepted. Fueling may require use of the RocketRoute app or assistance from staff, and fuel availability can be limited to certain times. The airfield is often the last option for fuel before Nordkapp.
Landing and takeoff fees are paid online via Avinor’s website, with options for single or weekly cards. Example: landing fee about €20. Parking may be free for flying club or AOPA members. Taxi rides into town cost about €20, and local attractions such as the UNESCO-listed rock carvings are reachable by taxi in around 10 minutes.
Accommodation in Alta can be difficult to secure during high season, so prebooking is recommended. Recommended hotels include Scandic Alta and Thon Hotel Vica, both offering good dining options.
Security procedures are straightforward, typically via the AirCargo entrance near the rental car parking area, with minimal screening. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
