What other pilots say about ELLX
Visited Luxembourg to break a flight, spent 5h there, had time to have lunch and do a quick tour of the city, which was very nice. It's not cheap, but it was on the bucket list of some friends who were with us... Taxi came in 10min, nice lounge for the passengers to wait. Security a bit intense everytime you go back and forth to the plane you have to do full airport security check, one passenger was even subject to a random check with bomb detection, etc... The AVGAS truck had a jammed hosed, so that delayed us a bit, and ultimately had to do it before departure (with a bit more wait, as truck takes about 10-20min to come to the plane). Overall, mission accomplished, we saw the city and my friends were happy. Cost for handling includes 3 passengers, landing take off fee, admin, Ppr fee, nav fee, but I simplified it as handling fee in the report...
Luxembourg Airport (ELLX) requires PPR and mandatory handling for non-based general aviation aircraft, with handling typically arranged via the Business Aviation Centre (BAC). PPR requests are submitted by email, and the confirmation number must be included in the flight plan. Handling and associated fees are substantial, with examples ranging from about €100 to nearly €300 depending on day, services, and surcharges. Example: handling about €130–€300 including landing, PPR, admin, passenger, and navigation charges. A 50% surcharge applies to handling on Sundays, while technical stops may receive a 50% rebate on handling. Landing and parking fees are moderate; for a typical GA aircraft these can total about €10–€20 for 24 hours.
Fuel is available at a self-service Avgas pump on apron P5, payable by credit card; the pump may limit each transaction to a set amount, requiring multiple payments for larger quantities. Refuelling by truck incurs an additional fee of about €50. Jet fuel is available only to based aircraft or via fuel release; payment methods vary and may require advance arrangements. Customs and police are present or can be called as needed at the BAC.
Facilities include a GA terminal with lounge amenities such as coffee, soft drinks, Wi-Fi, and basic seating; snacks are not always available. Transport between parking stands and the terminal is provided by staff or shuttle bus—walking is not permitted due to airport layout and security restrictions. Security checks are thorough for all passengers and crew each time they access airside areas.
Ground transport options include taxis (typically arriving within 10 minutes) and public buses to the city centre; taxi fares are relatively high compared to other airports in the region. The main terminal is not easily accessible on foot from the GA terminal.
Operations are straightforward under both VFR and IFR with professional ATC service; circuit procedures may be affected by local airspace restrictions near runway 06 due to a prohibited area. Training flights for non-domestic aircraft are limited to one landing or touch-and-go per visit.
Contact: gat@lux-airport.lu or +352-2462-3400 for handling arrangements. ELLX offers efficient service but at higher cost than many regional airports; procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM.
