What other pilots say about EIDL
Spectacular approach to the airfield located right on a large sandy beach, very friendly ATC despite the rush hour of simultaneously inbound airliners, and a very accommodating welcome on the ground. The portion of the apron used for parking has tie-down rings in places to secure the aircraft. You may walk to and from the aircraft, but only when escorted by an airport employee. The Enterprise rental car counter is not staffed continuously, but key pickup and return can be handled, if needed, by the attendant at the information desk, where you also pay the fees. Beautiful scenery without the usual tourist bustle and very fair value for money at the nearby hotels and restaurants. Landing fee for an AA5 €12.00 and parking €10.50 per day. NO Avgas available, but it is available just around the corner at Sligo EISG.
Donegal Airport is located directly beside a large sandy beach in a scenic, remote area. The airport is quiet with few movements and offers non-precision approaches to both runway ends, including NDB and LOC procedures; RNP approaches are listed in the AIP but are currently NOTAMed unavailable. There is no radar service. Operations are straightforward despite the class C airspace.
Landing fees for singles are about €20, with overnight parking for three nights included in a single charge of about €50. Example: landing and three nights parking about €50. For twins, landing and overnight charges total about €40. Hangarage is available for about €20 per night. Fees are paid at the information desk inside the terminal.
AVGAS availability is inconsistent: some reports state none is available, while others mention it but without confirmation of purchase; Jet A-1 is available. Tie-down points (ground rings) exist on the ramp for securing aircraft. Walking to and from aircraft is permitted only when accompanied by airport staff.
Enterprise car hire operates from the terminal, though the desk may not always be staffed; key handover can be arranged at the information desk. The nearest small town is a 15-minute drive away, with Donegal town over an hour by car. Carrickfinn Beach is adjacent to the airport, accessible within 3–10 minutes on foot.
The area offers hotels and restaurants with good value for money. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
