The main runway is grass, generally usable but somewhat uneven, especially in dry summer conditions; the shorter astroturf runway is less used. The taxiway and runway can be soft or rough after rain, so slow taxiing is advised. Parking is available on grass in front of the café and near the pub garden, with good space for visiting aircraft.

Landing and overnight parking fees are on the higher side for the facility quality. Example: landing plus one night parking about £30. Payment is typically made at the tower or via a credit card machine on site. Avgas is available but considered expensive.

The airfield has a casual, communal atmosphere with fast food and drinks available daily, and wood-fired pizza offered Friday to Sunday. A small aviation museum is present on site. Taxi numbers are posted inside the pub; local taxi service "A-Cab" is mentioned as reliable. The town of Sandown and its beach are 1–1.5 km away (about 20–30 minutes on foot), with bus service from just outside the airfield and hotels, supermarkets, and restaurants nearby. Shanklin is also accessible by taxi.
