Landing, parking, and mandatory handling fees at EGGD are high for non-commercial general aviation. Example: landing and three nights’ parking about £350–£400. Single-day visits also incur substantial costs; one example for landing and short parking is about £250. Fees apply even for practice approaches without landing, with ATC and runway charges levied based on MTOW. Handling is compulsory, typically via Bristol Flying Centre or Bristol & Wessex Aeroplane Club; the latter may offer slightly lower fees during their opening hours.
General aviation operates from the south side of the runway, separate from the main terminal and car hire facilities on the north side. Access between sides usually requires a taxi; bus services run from the north but are not directly accessible from GA parking without additional transport. Taxis to the city cost about €40. A small café is available on the GA side.
Startup clearance is required for VFR flights, and local procedures include designated reporting points. Hi-vis vests are mandatory airside. Avgas is available only from Bristol Flying Centre. The airport operates 24 hours.
Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM. High costs and logistical complexity make EGGD less attractive for typical GA visits.
