Civil Airfield Husum Schwesing (EDXJ)

Husum (EDXJ) offers a friendly, relaxed environment with consistently helpful staff. The asphalt runway is partially closed for military use, leaving over 1000–1140 meters available for civil operations; the closed section is clearly marked, but a chest-high wire fence before threshold 21 (mid-runway) is only visible on short final and requires attention. Backtrack is needed to reach the 21 threshold. Wind turbines west and south of the field are just below circuit height but remain outside the pattern. The nearby Schleswig TMZ/RMZ lies immediately east and south; circuit entry and airspace awareness are important.

All fuel types (Avgas, UL91, Jet A1, SuperPlus/Mogas) are available. Parking is ample, with tie-down cables at stands and hangar space generally available on request. Bicycle rental is offered, with about 20 minutes cycling to Husum town; car hire can be arranged in advance (+49 171 7359888), with vehicles delivered to the parking area near the tower and keys left in the flight planning room. On request, airside vehicle access for loading/unloading is possible. No on-field restaurant or café is regularly available, but ice cream and coffee are sometimes offered in the tower.

Operating hours in summer are typically 10:00–20:00 local; PPR for early opening is possible with a surcharge. Night operations are supported with lighting by arrangement.

Fees are low for general aviation. Example: landing fee about €10; parking about €10 per day.

The airfield is suitable for non-commercial GA flights, including international arrivals and departures to/from Scandinavia. Facilities and services are straightforward, with a focus on practical support for visiting pilots.
