Civil Airfield Juist (EDWJ)

EDWJ (Juist) is a popular, professionally run airfield with friendly and helpful staff. The paved runway and taxiways are in good condition, though some parking areas can be uneven; slow taxi recommended. The airfield is open all day, including weekends and winter months, with no midday closure. VFR operations are standard; IFR arrivals are possible with PPR. Approaches can be affected by turbulence and wind shear due to the high dune near runway 26, especially with NW winds; a higher and longer final is advisable to avoid wake effects. For departures from 26, an early right turn is expected.

The beach is 5–10 minutes on foot from the airfield. The town center is about 4–4.5 km away, reachable in roughly one hour on foot or by renting bicycles directly at the airfield for €10 per day (e-bikes about €25 per day). Bicycle availability can vary during busy periods. Horse-drawn carriages provide transport to town for about €20 per person each way; these operate on a limited schedule and are slow compared to cycling or walking.

A restaurant at the airfield offers both Nepali and German dishes, with mixed reviews regarding flexibility and menu options. Additional dining options such as Café Wilhelmshöhe are located between the airfield and town. Overnight accommodation can be arranged through the staff, including rooms at the nearby Jugendbildungsstätte ("Jubi").

Landegebühren (landing fees) are generally at the higher end for North Sea islands but considered reasonable for the location. Example: landing fee about €30 for an aircraft around 1500 kg MTOW; overnight parking is low-cost (about €5 per day). Payment is typically cash only; card payment may not be available.

No fuel is available at EDWJ. The island is car-free; all ground transport uses bicycles or horse-drawn carriages. Camping anywhere on Juist is prohibited.
