Airport Wilhelmshaven Jadeweser Airport (EDWI) IFR

EDWI (Wilhelmshaven/Mariensiel) is a well-equipped airfield with a long hard runway, night lighting, and both VFR and IFR (GPS/RNAV) procedures. IFR operations are routine and coordinated efficiently, with an additional fee per IFR movement. The airfield is uncontrolled but organized, with radio/transponder mandatory zones to the northwest and two separate military zones to the west that may be active independently; see AIP/NOTAM for details. Circuit entry is straightforward, though increased noise protection applies and crosswinds can be significant. The airfield maintains its own Class F airspace for IFR traffic.

Service is consistently described as very friendly and helpful, with staff often assisting with fueling and ground handling. Payment for landing fees can be made via Aerops app or card in the tower; fuel is available by AirBP card at self-service pumps for Avgas and Jet A1. Facilities include a maintenance workshop (Werft), briefing room with internet access, and tie-downs with securing points. Parking is available, typically with the first 6 hours free.

Bicycle rental is available directly at the airfield, often in excellent condition; three bikes cost about €20 total. Car hire options include App2Drive and Sixt vehicles on site. Taxis can be arranged by staff, with rides to Wilhelmshaven city center typically costing around €15–20 and taking 10–20 minutes; cycling to the city or promenade takes about 15–20 minutes. The on-field restaurant/café is located just across the road from the terminal and offers meals, snacks, and drinks.

Landing fees are generally low for GA aircraft. Example: landing plus a few hours parking including IFR fee about €40; another example: landing fee about €20. IFR surcharges apply per movement. Parking fees are modest after initial free hours.

Customs/police clearance for Schengen entry/exit is available with a couple of hours’ notice; police are described as cooperative.

The airfield is suitable for non-commercial general aviation under 2 t MTOW. Overall, EDWI offers efficient procedures, excellent service, good facilities, easy access to town by bike or taxi, and low operating costs for GA pilots.
