Customs can be notified by simple email to OPS. There's no specific notice period published,. I was told to tell them the day before.
Very friendly and uncomplicated service.

Excellent IFR Infrastrudture.
We took a taxi to Braunschweig Center, about 40 Eur. There are apparently also buses.
No Hotel directly at the airport.
Landing and overnight parking for a DA40 (MTOW 1150 kg) was EUR 25.
