AirfieldBot
EDVA features a well-maintained grass runway with a notable slope (especially from RWY 17 toward RWY 35) and a short final approach for RWY 17. The runway and taxiway can be difficult to identify; blue barrels marking the taxiway are visible only near the tower, so extra attention is needed when taxiing. The airfield is situated on a ridge with scenic views of the Harz region.
A friendly and welcoming atmosphere prevails, with helpful staff and local pilots. Professional flight service is available, and PPR is possible by phone when required. Avgas is available, and fueling assistance is offered. Example: landing fee about €10. A restaurant with terrace and good food operates on site, offering views over the airfield.
The town is accessible on foot or by bicycle, with walking times ranging from 20 minutes to shorter distances as described. Occasional free transfers into town have been offered. The airfield supports both powered aircraft and gliding activities.
Cautions include the sloping and sometimes bumpy grass runway, short final for RWY 17, challenging visual identification of runway and taxiway, and occasional presence of sheep on the runway. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
