EDTL (Lahr/Black Forest Airport) offers a 3000 m runway with full IFR procedures and friendly, efficient staff. The airport is suitable for both VFR and IFR operations, with instrument approaches available and ATC active seven days a week. Customs is available with two hours’ prior notice to Ops for non-EU or non-Schengen flights. Taxi arrangements are handled by Ops, and car rental is possible via Sixt, which can deliver vehicles to the airport for an extra fee; walking distance to rental offices ranges from 2 minutes up to 2 km, depending on arrangements.
Landing fees for typical GA aircraft (up to around 1.7 t) since 2021 range from about €20 to €60, depending on weight and duration of stay. Example: landing and overnight parking about €60; landing only about €40; short-term parking included in some cases. Hangar space is available at about €40 per night. Parking fees are typically around €10–€20 per day for GA aircraft. Facilities on the airfield are limited: there is a small lounge/briefing room at the GAT, but no on-field restaurant; several restaurants and cafés are within 7–8 minutes’ walk, with fast food options about 1 km away.
The airport is well placed for visits to Lahr town, the Black Forest region, Freiburg, and Europa-Park Rust (15–20 minutes by shuttle or taxi). Public transport access includes Lahr train station (about 35 minutes’ walk or available by taxi/shuttle). Fuel (Avgas) is available by pump with credit card or BP carnet payment.
The apron is large with flexible parking; marshalling is provided as needed. The circuit pattern can be tight due to airspace constraints, and long taxi distances may be required due to the runway layout. Noise certificates may reduce fees in some cases. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
Overall, EDTL provides reliable service, straightforward IFR/VFR access, convenient customs arrangements, and good ground support for general aviation pilots visiting the region.
