PPR is required, typically arranged by phone. A minimum of 100 hours pilot experience is required. The airfield sits in a valley surrounded by hills; approaches and departures, especially on runway 28, are considered demanding due to terrain and slope. Runway 10 is generally preferred for landing as it rises slightly, while runway 28 descends and presents more challenges, including a hill on approach. There is a radio tower close to the circuit that must be avoided. Both runway ends have 100-meter asphalt extensions, increasing effective takeoff length.
The grass runway is well maintained. No fuel or on-field restaurant is available. Overnight accommodation may be available at the airfield; otherwise, the Thüringer Hof restaurant is about 500 meters away. The area is popular for hiking, with the forest and swimming pool about 15 minutes away on foot.
Landegebühren are low. Example: landing fee about €10. Landegutscheine are accepted.
Wet grass can significantly increase landing distance, especially with tailwind; careful planning for approach and departure is essential due to terrain and wind conditions. Fliegen ohne Flugleiter (unattended operations) may occur at times.
Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
