Sonnen Airport (EDPS)

EDPS is Germany’s highest elevation airfield at over 2,700 feet, featuring a single sloped asphalt runway approximately 640–650 meters long. Landings are typically on runway 20, which has a 30-meter elevation gain and requires careful planning; departures are usually on runway 02, with high trees and houses near the end. Approaches involve flying low over a quarry, with possible up- and downdrafts above it. The airfield is considered challenging and best suited to pilots with some experience, especially in wind.

PPR is required, typically arranged by phone; staff are described as exceptionally friendly and helpful. The airfield has a restaurant with Bavarian character, coffee and cake available, and a welcoming atmosphere for visiting pilots. Fuel is available on site and can be obtained without complications. The operator may offer rides to the nearest town or restaurant. The location provides unique flying experiences in scenic surroundings near the Czech border.
