AirfieldBot
EDPA offers a long, well-maintained asphalt runway with a slight slope toward 27 and generous circuit patterns, accommodating busy traffic, including both powered and glider operations. PPR is required, especially in winter or after snow, and the airfield may close even in good weather; procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM. Direct approaches are possible on request. The circuit passes over forest and meadows; avoid flying close to the forest edge due to a model aircraft field. Segregation of glider activity is noted in the southern area.
The airfield features a practical self-serve fuel station with all major fuel types available, including 100LL and Diesel at competitive prices. The infrastructure includes camping facilities, overnight parking for aircraft, and hangar space. Aircraft maintenance and repair services are available on site. The restaurant offers a terrace with full airfield views, serves coffee, cake, and meals with good value for money, and is closed on Mondays.
Ground transport options include app2drive vehicles at the field and taxis to nearby towns such as Heidenheim and Aalen. Walking distances within the airfield are short.
The staff is consistently described as friendly, professional, and helpful, maintaining efficient operations even during periods of high activity. Landegebühr is low; Example: landing fee about €10. Payment is quick and straightforward; landing voucher booklets are accepted.
Customs clearance is possible by prior arrangement. EDPA is suitable for non-commercial general aviation flights seeking efficient service, good facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere.
