What other pilots say about EDMG
The little grass field is home to an extremely friendly and very active aero club. The AD is PPR, however you‘re welcome to call in on the radio and see if someone is there. On weekends and nice days that’s almost guaranteed. Unattended operations are restricted to based aircraft but you can apply for PPR and someone will come out. Fees are modest, see https://www.lsvgz.de/flugplatz for details.
As in many places in Germany noise sensitive neighbors are a problem to the airfield operator, so stick to the published pattern for noise abatement.
The runway can be a bit rough, especially in the winter. Pilots of aircraft with retractable gear or tight wheel pants may want to land somewhere else in these conditions. It might be advisable to land a little to the right or left of the centerline to find smoother ground. Here is a little video of a landing with a 182: https://youtu.be/lIhtl9pUNZo
PPR applies for arrivals on weekdays, with prompt responses to online requests and straightforward procedures. On weekends, normal operations apply, though arrivals may use blind calls if the radio operator is off duty. Procedures and costs align with the official website. MoGas and AvGas are available on request, with card payment accepted. The grass runway is well maintained and in good condition. Parking under the wing is possible, and hangar space can be arranged. Overnight stays under the wing are allowed, with the first night free in some cases.
A restaurant with a beer garden is located directly at the airfield and receives positive feedback; it is closed Mondays, open until 14:00 on weekdays and all day on weekends. Taxis can be ordered from the tower, typically arriving within 5 minutes; a one-way trip to Legoland costs about €20. Walking to the city takes 20–30 minutes, or a taxi can be used to reach the train station for onward bus connections.
Strict adherence to circuit patterns is required due to local noise complaints, especially over residential areas west of the field. Fallschirm (parachute) activity occurs; pilots should check for NOTAMs and exercise caution as radio announcements of jumps may not always be made. During weekdays, radio service may be handled by an avionics company or other on-field business and may be unavailable during lunch breaks.
Example: landing fee about €10.
The airfield is suitable for general aviation visits, especially as a base for Legoland trips or exploring Günzburg’s old town. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
