Civil Airfield Meschede Schueren (EDKM)

Meschede-Schüren (EDKM) sits in scenic, hilly terrain near the Hennesee, offering a relaxed atmosphere and friendly support from local pilots. The airfield operates without a formal circuit; approaches are direct, with automatic radio announcements for runway and QNH after initial call. Approaching runway 04 is common, and there is no published circuit. The runway is long and wide but features a noticeable dip (U-shape) and sloping terrain, requiring attention to possible turbulence or wind effects near the thresholds and during approach or departure due to surrounding hills. Obstacles include slender radio masts south (near Hennesee) and north (toward Arnsberger Wald), which may be hard to spot in poor visibility but do not present significant clearance issues.

Landing fees are described as moderate or low. Example: landing fee about €10. Payment is possible via Aerops. Hangar space is available at reasonable rates when staying overnight. Fuel availability has varied; Avgas is available, but card payment may not always be possible—cash may be required.

The on-field restaurant "Wolkenstürmer" offers fresh meals, coffee, and cake, with positive feedback on food quality and hospitality. The café may have limited opening hours on weekdays or be managed by a single person, potentially leading to longer ground times.

Taxis must come from Meschede (about 13 km away), resulting in high fares even for short trips; a flat rate applies between the town and airfield. Occasionally, pilots or staff may offer rides for short distances if available. Accommodation is not on site but can be arranged locally, sometimes with shuttle service.
