Pilot Comments for EDFM
Timo
Very efficient processing at the C-Büro. From the aircraft to the C-Büro, strictly follow the marked route and do not cut across the apron. Several food options in the building or a short walk outside. Uber to the city for about 12 EUR. Must-visit: Friebe Shop about 100 m further on.

Parked at EDFM for two days for a business appointment. Parking on grass; Tower asked if that was acceptable for a Mooney. It was dry, so no issue. Tie-down chains available on the ground. The fuel pump is activated by staff and can then be paid via AeroPS or credit card. On departure, landing and parking were also paid via AeroPS. Parking up to 2t EUR 12/night; landing up to 1600kg and enhanced noise protection EUR 23,40 (both plus VAT). Fuel prices are on the website. Rental cars on site via App2Drive. Overall everything straightforward, quick, and inexpensive, with good opening hours.

EDFM Mannheim City is a controlled airport with a 1090 m paved runway, located close to Mannheim and Heidelberg. Both VFR and IFR operations are supported, with RNAV and LOC approaches available for runway 27; circling to runway 09 is common. The approach is steeper than standard (3.5°), and all IFR arrivals and multi-engine aircraft require a signed declaration confirming familiarity with special procedures—this form can be sent by email or fax as detailed in the AIP. For customs, a flight plan from Switzerland suffices as prior notice; customs is available with 30 minutes' PN.
Service quality is consistently described as excellent, with friendly, professional tower staff and efficient ground handling. Payment for landing fees and fuel can be made via Aerops app, credit card, or EC card in the terminal office. Refuelling is straightforward at on-field pumps. Parking is available on both asphalt and grass; short-term parking under 12 hours may be free, while overnight parking incurs a fee.
Landing fees for typical GA aircraft under 2 tonnes are generally categorized as medium; examples include about €30 for landing (1400 kg MTOW) and about €60 for two nights' parking. Parking per night is around €10. No handling is required for small aircraft.
Facilities include a modern terminal, a pilot shop (Friebe), and several dining options: a bistro in the terminal (sometimes closed seasonally), Restaurant Lindbergh across from the terminal, and additional eateries nearby. Accommodation such as B&B Hotel is within 200 m walking distance.
Ground transport is convenient: tram stops are directly opposite the terminal, providing access to Mannheim city center in about 10–15 minutes and Heidelberg in 20–30 minutes; taxis to Heidelberg cost around €40. App2drive car sharing vehicles are available on site.
Noise abatement procedures apply—departures from runway 27 should proceed straight to the River Rhein before turning toward "W" waypoint due to noise-sensitive areas. Occasional ramp checks may be strict regarding original documentation.
Customs procedures are efficient for international arrivals with appropriate notification. EDFM offers an accessible location, efficient operations, good facilities, and strong public transport links for general aviation pilots.
