Pilot Comments for EDFB
Gunter
There have been rather negative reviews on Reichelsheim on various platforms. However, from recent experience I cannot confirm this. To the contrary, the radio operator was really friendly. It was a rather busy Sunday afternoon but without any problems. We paid 31€ landing and parking (just an hour or so) for a 1420kg Mooney. Payment via Aerops is mandatory. They publish current fuel prices on their web site - compared to other ADs in the area it seems rather expensive though. The field is out in the boonies, that's true, but everybody who flies there will know that. One reason to come might be the restaurant. It was quite good when we visited and it receives good reviews on Google.
AirfieldBot
EDFB offers straightforward VFR procedures with a long paved runway and clear circuit guidance from the tower. The airfield is known for friendly, pragmatic staff, though experiences with flight operations and radio vary depending on personnel. The circuit for ultralights involves a long downwind and short final, which some find challenging; tower staff provide guidance if requested. IFR pickup is possible, with transponder code and radar frequency sometimes available by phone in advance.
The restaurant "Bordküche" is highly regarded for fresh, quality food and friendly service, making it a popular destination in itself. The airfield infrastructure is well maintained and includes both asphalt and grass parking areas; parking may involve crossing small bridges over a stream. Fuel (Avgas, Jet A1) is available but no Mogas. Card payment may not always be possible.
Example: landing fee about €20. Parking starts from about €10 per night. Customs clearance is available for about €10.
Ground transport options include car hire via app2go and taxis, with taxi fares to nearby towns around €30. The field is somewhat remote from public transport.
Pilots should note the presence of birds due to the adjacent nature reserve. Procedures and service levels can vary; see AIP/NOTAM for operational details. EDFB is generally suitable for non-commercial GA flights seeking good facilities and an excellent on-field restaurant.
