Civil Airfield Jena Schoengleina (EDBJ)

EDBJ is situated in a scenic area on a plateau and features a long asphalt runway with additional grass strips available for events. The airfield is known for its friendly, helpful staff and generally uncomplicated operations. Opening hours are restricted to 09:00–17:00 local time, with no PPR or O/R options outside these hours. Payment by AeroPS is accepted.

Facilities include Super Plus and Mogas fuel, hangar space (including guest use), and newly renovated on-field guest rooms for overnight stays. The restaurant is currently closed, but the airfield team can arrange snacks or cake with advance notice; previously, the restaurant offered local cuisine and outdoor seating. Coffee is available in the tower, and food delivery can be arranged. A swimming pool, camping area, and playground are present on the field.

Ground transport options are limited: there is no public transport connection to Jena, taxis to the city are relatively expensive (around €50 one way), but pre-booked car hire is possible. Walking paths around the airfield offer opportunities for local exploration.

Service quality is consistently rated highly, with staff providing assistance such as jump-starts and accommodating special requests. The airfield supports various activities including gliding and parachuting; at times of high activity, radio workload may be elevated. Procedures may vary; see AIP/NOTAM.

Fees are described as very low. Example: landing fee about €10; landing plus one night parking about €20.

EDBJ offers a welcoming environment for general aviation with good infrastructure but limited ground transport and currently no regular restaurant service.
