Pilot Comments for EBAW
Achim
For a large city, very inexpensive and convenient; especially nice that handling is not mandatory. A 3.5 t aircraft is only marginally more expensive than a 172. Be sure to bring chocks and a high-visibility vest. A pilot license is required for access. Jet A-1 must be requested by phone at +32 475 44 97 79; price is quite high, about €2/l.

Antwerp (EBAW) requires all arrivals and departures to be registered via the airport website; invoices are sent by email and paid by bank transfer. IFR and VFR operations are available, with professional ATC and generally efficient procedures. PPR is mandatory via the online form, and for non-EU/Schengen flights, a GENDEC must be submitted in advance by email; customs can be handled on arrival or remotely with prior paperwork. For flights from Switzerland (Schengen, non-EU), a GENDEC is required even though customs can be completed on site. Maximum 2500 ft applies for arrivals and departures, and pilots should check if EBR78 is active before filing flight plans.
Fees are split into landing and takeoff charges, with additional per-passenger and PRM fees; invoices typically total €80–100 for a short stay with one overnight. Example: total charges about €100 for three days including landing, takeoff, parking, pilot, and passenger fees. Go-arounds may incur full additional charges each time. Payment is only by invoice—no cash or card at the airport.
Self-service fuel (100LL/Jet A-1) is available via BP card; Jet A-1 can also be requested by phone at +32 475 44 97 79. Chocks and high-visibility vests are required on the apron. Taxiways may have uneven surfaces or potholes; caution is advised when taxiing, especially for aircraft with low propeller clearance.
Access to Antwerp city is easy: taxis (including Uber/Bolt) are available at the terminal, with rides to the main station taking about 15 minutes and costing around €20. Public transport options include a bus stop directly outside the terminal connecting to Berchem station, then tram or bus to the city center; tickets cost about €3 and must be purchased at machines (not onboard). Car hire desks (Hertz/Sixt) are located in the terminal.
Security procedures require pilots to show license and ID when passing through passenger security; access to aircraft is usually on foot across the apron with a hi-vis vest. There is no separate GA terminal; all users pass through the main building.
Customs/immigration for non-Schengen/EU flights require pre-notification via GENDEC forms submitted online or by email; police and customs contacts are available on the airport website or via +32 3 285 69 43 (immigration) and +32 3 285 69 28 (customs). Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
Antwerp airport offers efficient access to both Antwerp city and Brussels by train or car, with friendly staff and generally positive experiences for general aviation pilots.
