Isafjordur sits in a fjord with a runway close to a mountain; the final approach segment is VFR even for instrument procedures, and winds from the southeast can make landings challenging. There are RNAV and NDB approaches, and published IFR departures use a SID, but clearances may require departing VFR and picking up oceanic clearance from Iceland Radio. No landing or parking fees. Avgas is supplied by the same provider as at BIEG. Seabirds nest near the parking area and may attack people nearby. Hotel accommodation is limited and fills quickly during tourist season. Departures to Greenland require advance permission from the Icelandic CAA, which requests credit card details for a small fee; Customs also attend, and the permission number must be entered in Field 18 of the flight plan, though local AFIS staff may not be familiar with this process.
