Pilot Comments for BGBW
Achim
Always accessible (as opposed to Nuuk who no longer welcome GA) and very quick turnaround times with reasonable fees. The weather is usually better than the forecast and the staff are very helpful. After only using it as a fuel stop for years, we stayed 2 nights this time to explore the area which was magnificent. Southern Greenland is a full recommendation and BGBW is great. Supposedly it will close down in 2026 in favor of a new airport closer to the actual settlements. So make sure to visit this living piece of WW2 history before it's too late!

Spectacular approach through fjord and glacier terrain, with the airport located at the end of a narrow fjord surrounded by high mountains. IFR operations are challenging due to terrain constraints, especially in poor weather. The runway and infrastructure are described as good, with friendly and professional service. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
Landing and handling fees are generally higher, with examples ranging from about €90 to about €150, or $120 to $190. Example: landing and handling about €150. Out-of-hours surcharges can be substantial, between $1100–$1500.
Avgas is available, with prices reported between $3–$5 per liter. The Hotel Narsarsuaq is 200–500 meters from the airport and offers a canteen; food is also available 10 minutes from the terminal in the hotel. A youth hostel is available outside peak season. The "Eric-The-Red" museum can be reached by a 30-minute walk and boat ride.
Night temperatures can drop below freezing; alcohol for de-icing may be useful. The airport may be converted to a heliport within several years.
